How to Unclog a Toilet

Sometimes Murphy's Law hits us so bad that there's nothing you can do to avoid it. Imagine you being late for your office or meeting or some important work because your toilet has gotten clogged! Now it's not something that you should skip doing and move on to next thing. You have to unclog it somehow even without a plumber. So here are some tips that might help you in such tiring times!

Plunger Method

A plunger method is an easier method to unclog your toilet. You might want to use a large plunger as the larger the plunger, the more pressure it will create on the clog. Do not flush water as it's already clogged and flushing more water would mean your toilet will overflow and spill it on the floor!

Insert the plunger making sure that the hole is covered completely. Submerge the plunger in water properly as the pressure has to be applied in the water and not in the air. After you are done with this, push it down slowly and then sharply pull up the plunger to create suction in the clogged toilet. Keep on doing this over a few times and that should unclog your toilet quite well!

Chemical Method

If the above doesn't work out, you might try this method. A drain-cleaning chemical or powder is available at most of the grocery stores and it's always advisable to have one at your home. Basically what a chemical or powder does it when it is mixed with water, it forms foam which tries to erode everything that comes in its way e.g. the human clog or other such waste. Mixing it with hot water is recommended. Just add some hot water and then the chemical or powder and let it stay for about 10 minutes. Then, if the water level has gone down, try flushing it to confirm it's unclogged.
